Across the street is an beautifully restored building from the late 19th century. In it, is housed a law practice. There is one notary and seven “workers” or employees that do various paperwork for the notary. The seven employees (all female) come into the office between 7:00 and 7:30 am every morning. There is a flurry of activity from one office to another, back and forth to the coffee maker, to the photocopying machine, exchanging one piece of paper for another, and distributing files to their proper desk.
And then, just before 8:30, a calm descends upon the office. Each of the women quietly sits in front of their computer. I can almost smell the freshly brewed coffee steaming from the cups on their desks. The world is right. The boss arrives. The day begins.
